So this is the week of "lasts." We attended our last Friday night Newcomers' get-together. This time it was at El Paladar, which is in the Valle del Rio right next to Valle Escondido. Again, a great night of meeting new people as well as an opportunity to chat again with new friends. The couple who sat next to us were from Rhinelander. They're headed home the same day we are so we may see them at the airport. Can't remember if I mentioned it or not, but at the Jazz Festival, the woman next to me said that she used to live in Milwaukee and attended St. Alphonsus grade school and Greendale High School. As we were having this conversation, the guy next to her raised his hand and said, "Oconomowoc." I spent most of the Newcomers' evening talking to Pia. I enjoy her outlook: very positive and unencumbered by future plans, which is also the case with many here. Most people are pretty adventurous. Saturday Pia and Dan went on another long hike. Dan said it was extremely muddy, and I would have hated it. Pia affirmed this later that evening, which was our last Saturday night dinner with Ted and Pam. Pia and Audrey came as well. I made garlic bread with hummus, black beans and rice, a salad, and bananas foster for dessert. No complaints. And it looks like that was my last time cooking as well. Audrey invited us all for Wednesday night and Pia invited us for Thursday. Tuesday I think we're going to try Il Pianista again. And then Friday we're on the plane back to Panama City. Our plane leaves there at about 6 a.m. for Chicago via San Salvador. We arrive in Chicago at 1:25 pm on Saturday. Jolene is picking us up. So, another nice quiet Sunday today. I did some reading and catching up on videos that I've been wanting to watch. And then four more days of paradise. I think Pam and I will go to the BCP Tuesday morning, lunch and then one last Blue Sky group. I got a message from Michele this morning that advised me to take the opportunity to walk outside barefooted while I still had the opportunity because winter is still going strong in Wisconsin. She said the forecast for Saturday is 22 degrees. Did I say it already? Next year we stay until April.
