A few days ago I asked Pam where I could go to get a pedicure. She called me this morning and asked if 2 o'clock would work for me. "Oh, let me check my schedule... Okay, I can do that." Rhea is from Texas. Her husband, Santiago, is from Belize. They've been here for about two years and are planning on moving soon to Merida in Mexico. In the meantime, she has her manicure/pedicure business here, and Santiago builds bamboo furniture. She stays busy full time, and I can see why. She does a great job and charges only $15 for a pedicure. I don't know how she manages with nails as long as hers! After our pedicure Pam took me on a mini tour. She showed me San Francisco plaza where there is a great bakery - Morton's - I bought a mixed grain bread and some coffee. Pam said she wanted to kick me about the coffee. I didn't realize it was $12.50 a bag. Then we drove over to El Oasis, a small hotel in town where we are going to have dinner New Year's Eve. We also wanted to check out the rooms because Rhea told us that she thought they had long-term rentals. Turns out they do, but they are about $1500/month - very nice, but not necessary.
When I got home I started making a lentil marinara, and Dan was preparing to go for a run. Pam called and invited us over for "cocktails." We said we'd be over after Dan's run, and Dan asked if he could stop over to get the stick that Ted offered to ward off dogs along the way. I called back and asked if they had had dinner, and they said no, so we offered to bring over the sauce if they could provide the pasta. Deal. We had a nice dinner on their patio and tried out their "new" chimenea which they had recently purchased at a garage sale. We enjoyed a lovely dinner accompanied by the hum of the hummingbirds and the beautiful views. Ted also gave me a bag of Panama Joe coffee beans, so looks like I'm set in the coffee department for the duration.
We rounded out our evening with a call to Denise and Randy and watching another episode of Touch of Frost while Dan continued working.
