Last night at Ted & Pam's we were speculating on what the heck is up with the new neighbor. He moved in on, I think, Wednesday, and no one had seen hide nor hair of him. Dan saw motion in a window and called out to him, "Hi Neighbor," and knocked on his door a couple of days ago - nothing. We figured he had to come out sooner or later. In the meantime, of course, we're thinking there is something very odd about this behavior, and we're thinking the worst. Ted and Pam said I could come and stay at their house when Dan's not here. Today, however, Dan saw him standing outside and called out to him. We both went out and introduced ourselves. His name is Vic. He's from South Carolina. He seems seriously comprised health-wise. He's a tall, thin guy, walks with a cane. He apparently is a cancer survivor - my guess, lung. He's planning on moving here but having a hard time finding a place. He's not jazzed about Volcancito because of the elevation and his difficulty breathing. I went back into the house after a short chat. When Dan came back in he said that he volunteered my services to help him get his computer working. He's apparently having problems with the Claro router. And Dan is going to go into town to get him some groceries. I can't imagine him even trying to walk up the driveway here. I get short of breath myself! I'm guessing he's not going to last long here. It's difficult enough for a completely healthy able-bodied person. I find it hard to believe that he made this trip on his own. Poor guy. He should be closer to hospital with some assistance. He said that Yelin tried to dissuade him from renting because of the cane, and she told him that we didn't speak English. That's apparently another concern of his. He doesn't speak any Spanish. Yikes. So bottom line, he's not a threat; I could take him.
