Yesterday (Saturday) Dan and I hiked the El Pianista trail. Ted drove us into town at 7:30, and then we caught a cab to the trail head, which is a few kilometers above town in Alto Lino. An Italian restaurant, Il Pianista, is at the trail head. We're not sure if the trail was named for the restaurant or the other way around. As we arrived, Azul (Blue), the owner's dog was waiting at the entrance as if he were expecting us. He stayed with us the entire walk, waiting patiently as we caught up. The trail goes straight up the mountain, and the climate changes as you ascend. We started out with clear, partially sunny weather and ascended into the Bajareque and wind, which is characteristic of this area. There are five microclimates in the Boquete area, and this area always has rain. We have discovered that Volcancito (where we live) is the best - always dry and sunny.
